the keratins may be loosely defined as those proteins containing sulfur in the form of cystine and cysteine. understanding the permeability and especially the hydration characteristics of the keratins is of commercial importance to the textile, wool and leather industries, and of both commercial and clinical importance to those concerned with hair care and skin care. electrical methods have often been chosen to investigate these characteristics. the phenomenology which has developed is reviewed
