bayer ag has developed a microwave reflecting textile for easier location of objects floating on the sea surface, specifically for sea rescue purposes. basic requirement was for reflection loss to be below 0.5 db, preferably below 0.2 db, to produce good contrast with a heavy sea background. fibres used in the material are metallized by a wet chemical process: the thickness of metal is of the order of skin effect penetration. various structures such as corner reflectors and octahedral radar reflectors are illustrated design data for reflectors are provided
