the objectives of the phase ii research were to produce a supercomputer simulation model capable of dealing with contaminant transport in a three-dimensional, variably-saturated groundwater flow system and apply the model to a field-scale problem. the developed model effectively utilizes the vector processing environment of the cyber 205 supercomputer, resulting in a significant reduction in execution time over that of nonvector-based simulation models. in addition to simulation of toxic and hazardous contaminant migration in groundwater systems, the speed and generalized nature of the model will find favorable application in groundwater resource evaluation for municipal, agricultural, and industrial uses, large-scale modeling, groundwater rights assessment, and impact analysis for mining and related fields. details of model development, implementation, and testing are presented in the text of the report
