three different types of flight suits used in the swedish defence forces have been tested in a fuel fire environment. the suits were manufactured from cotton, cotton/polyester, ventile fabric and kermel. the testing consisted of a plastic arm. the surface temperature of the arm was adjusted to +27 to 33c by water which flowed inside the arm. the surface temperature of the arm was measured by thermocouples. the test results indicated that the protection from the flight suits depended on: areaweight of the fabric, type of fabric, and the thermal insulation under the flight suits. every separate test was evaluated in the respect of thermal damage to the dermis and epidermis
