in the study the molecular mechanism of the 'biochemical pulping,' or enzymatic maceration of the pectocellulosic bast fibers was clarified from two aspects: the aspect of enzymes responsible for the maceration and the aspect of components of the bast fibers subjected to the enzyme action. studies on identification, characterization and constitution of maceration factors were conducted. the relationship between the maceration and elution behaviors of fiber components was investigated. the maceration mechanism is discussed on the basis of the results
