a cvd method for sic coating was investigated on a pan-based carbon fiber, ungraphitized. the decrease in tensile strength of carbon fiber brought about by a sic layer as an undercoat. the carbon fiber yarn with or without the double layers coating was infiltrated with molten aluminum, after had been titanium-boron treated. carbon fiber-aluminum composite wires were obtained. they showed that a fairly marked improvement in strength of the composite wires was achieved by the application of the double layers coating
