the report presents the performance goals necessary for the development of a structural firefighter's protective ensemble. the protective ensemble consists of five integrated elements: (1) the protective garment system for body protection, (2) a self-contained breathing system, (3) a personal cooling systems for satisfying metabolic requirements, and (4) a lighting system and (5) a communications system for enhancing visibility and communications at the fireground. the standards presented consist of the performance requirements and evaluation methods to be used for the development of a structural firefighter's prototype ensemble. a listing of reference literature is included
