the whiskers are incorporated by a powder metallurgical technique first a whisker metal powder mixture with a random whisker orientation is prepared. the mixture is then densified by vacuum hot pressing and finally unidirectionally aligned by extrusion. the effect of extrusion temperature on surface finish and fiber damage is investigated. the tensile strength of the composite was up to three times higher than the strength of the pure matrix.
