corrosion behaviour of mixed laminates (cfrp core with both 7075-t6 clad and 5052-h38 faces)

salt spray tests were carried out on mixed laminate panels with both 0.1 mm thick 5052-h38 faces and 0.3 mm thick 7075-t6 clad faces, with carbon fiber reinforced plastic core, to determine the degree of attack by corrosion. it was found that mixed laminates made up with 7075-t6 clad aluminum alloys faces can be deteriorated rapidly by bondline corrosion when the edges are not properly sealed. when 5052-h38 aluminum alloy is used no risk for bondline corrosion was found; however, when the edges are not properly sealed the metal is slowly eaten away by corrosion
