electric eel acche solutions and enzyme-impregnated glass fiber tickets need excess protein, and suitable buffer for thermal stability. quaternary ammonium compounds were tested as stability enhancers. optimum conditions for enzyme on tickets or in solution below 40 c were found. triton x-100 was found a suitable wetting agent for tickets. chromogenic esterase substrates and other substrates (new) were evaluated. synthesis of water soluble indoxylacetates was partly completed. cost and availability of electric eels and eel enzyme were surveyed.
