considerable amounts of heat are normally lost in the effluent from dyehouses. a heat recovery system has been designed for one particular carpet mill dyehouse, and costings indicate that the scheme should be economic, with a payback time of just over three years. in general it was found that a heat recovery scheme must be designed specifically for a given dyehouse and should be linked to a reconsideration of the efficiency of energy utilization for the dyehouse as a whole. the use of recovered heat may necessitate changes in dyehouse procedure which in certain cases may lead to improved product quality and greater dyehouse throughput and efficiency.
