the composition of polyester-cellulosic blends is usually chemically analyzed using the standard sulfuric acid methods involving the dissolution of the cellulosic component. these methods are not only time consuming but also need care in adapting the proper procedure because the reagent concentrations and the treatment conditions (time, temperature, etc. ) vary for different fiber blends. rapid methods have also been reported that are microanalytical and organic reagent based, but these studies were restricted to polyester/cotton blends. in this communication, we report an effective and rapid trichloracetic acid/methylene chloride (tca/mc) system involving the dissolution of the polyester component fo blends with cotton, viscose, and polynosic. 8 refs
