in the reported experiments, the adsorption behavior of dsdmac was examined under different conditions, using various kinds of fibers. hard water, elevated temperatures (40 $degree$ c) and prolonged post-treatment improve the absorption capacity. during a normal laundering process with boiling water, dsdmac is desorbed almost quantitatively from, for example, cotton fabric. the desorbed amount of the above named softener combined with detergents which also contain a small amount of cationic surfactant of the dsdmac type, results in the production of detergents which act as foam brakes for regions where the water is soft. such detergent formulations not only have good antifoam properties but have a good laundering and detergent effect. 11 refs. in german
