a physically based model of water and sediment movement from a watershed, the sediment lab model, was combined with physiological model of cotton growth (gossym) to produce a model system that can be used to study the influence of management alternatives on water, sediment, and cotton yields from a cotton field. data from a cotton field in the mississippi delta were used to test and refine the system. examples showing how the system can be used to evaluate alternative land management schemes are presented. output from the system includes runoff, sediment, and cotton production. they were used to show how factors such as plant population fertilizer, row spacing, land slope and tillage operations can effect management alternatives
