international harvester (ih) has installed cathodic electrocoating (e-coat) at its sprawling plant to improve the finish quality on selected production piece parts for control centers (cabs) on tractors, combines and cotton pickers. the extremely tough nature of the black acrylic e-coat film allows ih to use it as a one-coat system on selected areas of the farm implements, such as control center frames, the top half of door frames and various mating parts on air conditioners and roof head liners. other areas, such as the fenders, combine frames, roofs, front shields, roll-over protective structures and the lower half of doors all receive a white or red topcoat. the combination e-coat and sprayed topcoat provides a finish with four times the corrosion resistance than the previous all-sprayed system
