the degradation of five types of cotton fabric and three types of cotton yarn and threads was studied during outdoor monsoon exposure, tropic room exposure and soil buried conditions. the susceptibility of different cotton materials was due to micronaire characteristics of the fibers and varying fungal activity. highly twisted and mercerized yarn was more resistant. twenty to 25 soil moisture favored maximum degradation. thirty-three fungi were isolated from exposed and soil buried cotton materials. three species were encountered for the first time from cotton materials 16 refs
