the purpose of the glaze is to decorate, or refine, the ceramic body. the qualities of the glaze largely determine the qualitative properties of ceramic products, e.g. their resistance to acids, caustic solutions, water, etc. a wellprepared glaze in attractive colors, with no hairline cracks, is usually what makes the purchaser decide to buy a particular ceramic product instead of a competitive product using inferior material. thus, a flawless surface finish, glossy or matt, is a very important feature of any glazed ceramic product. it is not the maximum particle size, but the relevant particle-size distribution that decides the quality of the ceramic product itself or the surface quality of its glaze. an annular-gap mill, as opposed to a conventional ball mill, is capable of turning out reproducible particle-size spectra. annular-gap mills by welte make it possible to achieve reproducible particle-size-distribution-curves, a particular advantage being the transferability of data between mills of different size and capacity any production-, design- or quality-assurance manager knows of the importance of a uniform particle-size distribution with respect to glaze-quality and reduction of rejects. 3 refs. in english, german
