carbon fibers were surface-treated with pulsed plasma in argon or hydrogen. in both cases, etching craters formed on the surface fibers. the gravimetric method was used to measure the two components of surface energy: dispersion and polar. the polar component after treatment increases from 21-30 mj/m**2. it is assumed that the polar groups appear on the surface of the fibers after (author abstract) 9 refs
