methods of cleaning wastewater from viscose fiber manufacture, and specifically, removal of thiosulfate, are discussed. potential methods include decomposition by sulfur dioxide, oxidation by oxygen or ozone, and biochemical oxidation. thiosulfate removal by the latter two methods was studied experimentally. removing thiosulfate by oxidation with technical oxygen is not recommended. thiosulfate was successfully removed by active sludge in concentrations up to 400 mg/lit in combination with farm and industrial wastewater. it is recommended to localize the absorber solution from the carbon disulfide regeneration unit and route it to a unit for crystallization of sodium thiosulfate. if however there are no units for utilization of sodium thiosulfate biochemical treatment of the absorber solution together with farm and industrial wastewater is recommended. 3 refs
