properties of newly developed pt resins and their composites are reviewed with emphasis on flame resistance, structure/property relationships, curing conditions, and pyrolysis products. pt resin technology is based on the thermally and chemically stable triazine network derived from the cyclotrimerization of cyanate ester groups, as opposed to weaker methylene bridges formed in conventional phenolic hexamethylenetetramine (hmta) cure systems. the synthesis of the cyanated resin involves a chemical modification of phenolic resin (novolac) through a cyanation reaction between the phenolic salt (usually trialkylamine salt and cyanogen halide in a suitable organic solvent). composite preparation is described
