technological advances such as faster processing times and smoother surface finishes have extended uses of sheet molded composites into the oldsmobile, pontiac, and buick versions of the gm200 all-purpose vehicle. the sheet molded composites consist of a mixture of resin, chopped fiberglass and filler material. to minimize the number of seams, most of the body's exterior is covered with only four panels: the roof, the entire left side, the right side, and the large lift gate that wraps around the back. nearly 50 m of adhesive is applied (to both the space frame and the composite body panels) using automated equipment. front fenders and front and rear fascias are made by reinforced reaction injection molding (rrim). the rrim parts and all moveable panels (doors, hood, and rear hatch) are bolted to the vehicle's space frame substructure
