use of surface treated glass fibers as a reinforcement of anisotropic composite materials results in changes of properties of the composites such as stiffness and, in many cases, also strength with increasing content of the glass fibers. it also leads to increased fatigue time limit in flow, improved hot shape retention, decreased thermal expansion, slower processing, etc. a major prerequisite for the use of glass fibers as reinforcement of composite materials is what is known as critical length of the fiber also, length-to-diameter ratio of the fiber is of importance since the resulting mechanical properties of the composite material decrease with increasing fiber diameter. mechanical properties of glass fiber reinforced polyamide 6 are shown as a function of dimensions and surface treatment of the glass fibers used.
