following recent eec directives to combat pollution of the aquatic environment, wira technology group is looking at ways and means of removing pesticide and mothproofing formulations from textile wastewaters. this is particularly important in view of the fact that although the use of persistent pesticides has been banned in uk textile industry for several years, chemicals such as dieldrin are used abroad and enter the uk on raw fleeces. during subsequent wet processing these chemicals was off into the effluent and enter the environment. we are in the process of evaluating all conventional treatment processes, such as acid cracking, extended aeration and also some of the newer technologies of granular activated carbon biological filters and membrane separation techniques
