important plastics used in the outer skin of the car body are smc, pur-rim and rrim as well as thermoplastic polyurethane and thermoplastic polyester elastomers, both with glass fiber reinforcement. a report is given on the painting of moldings made from these materials. the authors outline those requirements that have to be met with respect to paint processes used for coating the car body. also discussed are water-based paints with low solvent content.
