with respect to the coloring process, we must remember that those conditions which regulate any chemical reaction influence our coloring procedures. control of time, temperature, ph, and concentration is a must. complete solution of dyes, especially basic dyes, is also of great importance, as are process control, regulated times, controlled temperatures, regulated floats, and uniform ph garment leathers, being either analine or only glazed, demand that no oil or grease stains appear and, of course, this could be compounded by the natural grease content of the rawstock. consequently, even though the skins are thoroughly degreased (to a fat content averaging 2-3), care is taken to use a small percentage of emulsifying agent prior to or during neutralization and in the wet back phase when using crust leather
