labels for textile products may provide various messages of which the most important is size (of garments) or dimensions or other descriptor (e. g. tog rating) of domestic textiles. other messages may be: manufacturers' or distributors' identification; promotional logo, slogan, etc; upc (digital or bar code for sales control); country of origin; care instructions. all the above are optional to the manufacturer or distributor in the united states. the following messages are, however, a statutory requirement in the uk: fibre content; flammability warning (on some garments). this article deals with the last two mentioned subjects, plus country of origin and care instructions. numerous examples of labeling and symbols to be used are presented
