a survey of surface treatments for carbon fibers shows that the predominating ones are those involving surface oxidation. the state-of-the art treatments, applied routinely to commercial cf, provide 2-4 fold increases in the fiber-resin adhesion strength, both in shear and in tension. in composites, this adhesion normally is fully adequate for obtaining satisfactory axial tensile performance 64 refs
