a new design for line pipe used in the subsea transmission of oil at elevated temperatures relies on submerged arc welding. the new design was developed by bredero price international b. v. in kuantan, malaysia, with assistance from lincoln electric co. the pipes are separated by a space in which a polyurethane foam has been pumped. the foam acts as an insulating material for the hot oil. the outer pipe was coated with an anti-corrosion protection material and concrete weight coating. sacrificial anodes were installed for cathodic protection
