a hollow fiber ultrafiltration unit was evaluated for its capacity to concentrate human rotavirus from experimentally contaminated groundwater. the results of these experiments suggest that virus recovery is greatly improved by utilizing either a protein wash with beef extract or by backflushing the hollow fibers with phosphate buffered saline. an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (elisa) was used to determine rotavirus recoveries after concentration.
