tailoring filter fabrics for bag filters

to achieve good, trouble-free performance and high dust collection efficiency, the filter fabric has to be suitably tailored to the needs of the bag filter. based on the cleaning principle used and the process conditions, a judicious selection of filter fabric has to be made, with regard to: the type of material, the construction of the medium, and the surface treatment. the filter rate is largely governed by the filter media selected and is determined by field experience based on feedback data from operating plants and, of course, development laboratories. some of the special problems encountered frequently are discussed. this brings into focus the increasingly wide application areas of 'fabric filters' and the development and correct selection of media, i. e. , the key for the improvement of bag filter performance. the solution of many problems, considered extremely difficult if not impossible until recently, is now a distinct possibility. 5 refs
