in this paper the authors describe the various oxidation treatments of carbon fibres and establish how the changes induced in the surface properties of the filaments are related to their reactivity. the major factors which influence the interactions between carbon fibres and organic resins are reviewed. optimization of the interfacial bond by surface treatments of the fibres are discussed in relationship with the properties of the resulting composites. refs
