it has been demonstrated that fiber-matrix adhesion, in particular, is a key factor for the improvement of impact strength of composite materials, and the surface treatment of fiber has a substantial effect upon this property in many cases. in this article the effects of fiber length, fiber volume fraction, and matrix density upon impact strength of glass fiber reinforced rigid polyurethane foam (fru) are investigated by the charpy impact test and analyzed theoretically with special reference to the interfacial conditions between fiber and matrix. 15 refs
