a laser surface finish gage has been developed to measure the roughness of the entire inside surface of hemishells in the range of 4 to 10 microinches roughness average. standards have been fabricated that allow for traceability of the gage's measurements to the national bureau of standards. the gage employs the principles of angular scatter from a laser beam and was designed to eliminate errors introduced by varying degrees of part reflectance and changes in laser intensities. 1 refs
