some important trends of application of chitin and its derivatives in the technology of chemical fibers and plastics have been reviewed. in poland, chitin and its deacetylated derivative - chitosan - are obtained as by-products of antarctic crustacean processing. chitin and its derivatives can be used as a raw material for films and fibers, as well as a modificator of for other plastic products. the application of chitin polymers is rather limited to special purposes because of their high price. 36 refs. in polish
