this paper reviews the main features of and progress in the two methods of decorating plastics sheets by using letter press or relief printing, and lithography. these are the same methods used to print or decorate paper and many other materials. both methods have some distinct advantages over hot stamping and silk screening, as well as some real shortcomings. lithography is a printing process by which the image is offset onto a rubber blanket and then transferred to the surface which is to be decorated. in this process, the plate or source of the image is a planographic plate. the advantages and disadvantages of lithography versus silk screening versus hot stamping are compared (slide). they apply primarily to the decoration of plastic sheet and to a limited number of press types economic factors are also discussed
