a simple method is proposed for the determination of the ( $alpha$ $plus$ $epsilon$ ) amino groups of wool by reaction with ninhydrin. the method gives good reproducibility without the need for complex apparatus. variations in fiber diameter and cystine content have no significant influence on the values obtained for ( $alpha$ $plus$ $epsilon$ ) amino groups, and the ninhydrin method may be applied to dyed wool. several practical examples of the application of this method are described. 23 refs
