designs have been finalized and a contract recently awarded for the enlargement of pindari dam, a concrete faced rockfill dam (cfrd) originally constructed between 1966 and 1968 on the severn river in northern new south wales, australia. the dam will be heightened by 40.4 m to 85 m-high, resulting in an increase in storage capacity from 37 $multiplied by$ 10**6 m**3 to 312 $multiplied by$ 10**6 m**3. the enlargement will improve the security of water supplies for cotton irrigation in the downstream valley and, at the same time, rectify a serious shortfall in the flood handling discharge capacity of the existing dam.
