eec trade deficit at all-time high

the poor textile business cycle, both at world level and community level, as well as the drop of world prices for all fibres except cotton, had an impact on our trade in fibres in 1990. while our total fibre imports experienced a setback in 1990 $minus$ 17.5 in value terms and $minus$ 3.5 in volume terms, our total exports also decreased; by 16.5 in value terms and, what is more worrying, by 5.5 in volume terms. the eec has thus been able to bring down its deficit to ecu 3.2 billion, which corresponds to a 17.7 setback as compared with 1989
