causes of section straightener (mill 550-2) low reliability were studied. severe wear of rolls, frequent failure of individual units (particularly, spider of carbon shaft) as well as significant residual edge curvature of straightened channels are characteristic of operation of the above machines. analysis of section straightener operation revealed its design disadvantages. measures were worked out and introduced to improve performance of machines and resistance of straightening rolls. thus, the use of rolling lubricant (emulsion of spent polymerized cottonseed oil) favoured an approximately factor of 3 decrease of roll wear and increase of spider life-time. 2 refs. in russian
