dependable temperature and humidity control systems in cotton classing facilities can reduce varied classing of similar grade cotton. this study examined the dust concentrations and effectiveness of environmental control systems at three usda-ams cotton classing facilities. the hygroscopic nature of cotton fibers and the moisture and heat generated by workers influenced the temperature and humidity fluctuations recorded within the facilities. temperature and humidity levels increased near the return air register in each facility. total dust and microdust contents were determined for each facility. recommendations were developed for improving temperature and humidity control systems at classing facilities.
