the particle-fibre-adhesion is of great importance in the fine grain dust filtration by textile filter media. using the cotton dust filtration as example this contribution shows that the filter performance of a sieving fabric can be improved in the fine particle range by roughening the fabric fibres. the surface modification of the fibres is achieved in this case by a new technique of uv-laser irradiation.
