this paper indicates a logical approach towards the investigation of contaminated land and gives four examples of its application. the four sites indicated are: a cotton bleach/dye works; a refuse disposal site; a site used for storage and distribution of petroleum products; and a site formerly used by a company engaged in the recovery of waste industrial solvents. the sites had a fairly wide range of contaminating substances and hence a wide range of problems associated with investigation and redevelopment. 4 refs
