general theories for pressure drop across a plate are given the hydraulic characteristics of a perforated plate when partially covered with solid material are investigated. tests were carried out initially with clean water and later with the addition of small pieces of cotton wool to simulate the effect of solids loading on the plate. theory and experimental data are compared. 7 refs
