it has been shown previously that oxidation with nitric acid of nitrogen dioxide changes the chemical structure of the peat in the direction of increasing its exchange capacity, enables the yield of wax from it to be increased 2- to 2. 5-fold, and enriches it with acids. in the present work the authors have investigated the changes in the structure of the saponifiable and unsaponifiable compounds of the wax during the oxidation of the peat. the objects of investigation were waxes obtained from the initial (r $equals$ 60) cottongrass peat and the same peat after oxidation under the optimum conditions in a static system with 30 nitric acid at 30 $degree$ c for 0. 5 hr. 7 refs
