within a textile/rubber composite, the textile portion is every bit as important as the compounding ingredients in the rubber recipe, as far as the product and its end use are concerned. just as with the compounding ingredients, the properties of the textiles to be used must be accurately known, and it is particularly important to know of any shortcomings so that they can be catered for when calculating stresses and strengths within the composite. most textile reinforcements give good performance when used for the right purpose and, by using blends and mixtures, it is fairly easy to minimise any undesirable properties which could also be present. it is up to the product designer to develop the best properties within the raw materials and to keep undesirable properties at a minimum
