triglycerides deposited on cotton fabric in the form of artificial body soil (abs) were quantified with the use of atr/ft-ir spectroscopy after abs had been transferred onto the atr crystal under pressure. this approach improved the signal-to-background ratio by avoiding interference from cellulose absorption, and improved precision as contact of the cloth sample with the atr crystal was not necessary. abs concentrations comparable to natural body soil levels were determined. this procedure was shown to be useful for following the depletion of 'surface' abs after different washing procedures. this work is pertinent to laundry detergents (edited author abstract) 14 refs
