the ussr food program for the period up to 1990 envisages radical improvement in the quality of agricultural and food products this essentially requires the use of the latest quality-evaluation methods. the water and oil contents are major parameters for the quality of seeds from oil crops (sunflower, soya, cotton, etc. ) and processing products from them (crude oil, pressing, and seedcake) considerable attention is needed to the correct determination of these parameters. nmr analyzers have been used recently for rapid water and oil measurements on seeds, which employ nuclear magnetic resonance of the protons in the oil and water. measurement errors, standards, and specifications are discussed. 12 refs
