soluble, low-substituted cellulose acetates were prepared by direct acetylation of cellulose in the presence of large quantities of sulphuric acid (100-240) in dioxane. this method of acetylation enables low-substituted cellulose acetates to be obtained in one stage with a degree of substitution of 0 $multiplied by (times)$ 92-2 $multiplied by (times)$ 00, which are soluble according to the degree of substitution in dmf, in a water-dmf mixture (2:1) and a waterethyl alcohol mixture (1:1). films were cast from solutions, the strength and elongation of which were 60 $multiplied by (times)$ 0-80 $multiplied by (times)$ 0 n/mm**2 and 9-33, according to the composition of cellulose acetate. 13 refs
