in order to solve complex geologic problems, the seismic data must be collected and processed in a comprehensive 3-d sense instead of the 2-d techniques that were previously used. for the purpose of analyzing the prospect area it must be partitioned into 'bins' and those traces which fall within a given bin are treated as positionally coincident. descriptions are provided of two concepts of binning that have emerged. 4 refs
