the civil engineering division of department of space which is responsible for providing all the facilities for research and development activities of indian space research organization (isro) has its activities in project sites located in different parts of the country. thumba in kerala, ahmedabad in gujarat, hassan and bangalore in karnataka and sriharikota in andhra pradesh are the major project sites of civil engineering division, wherein the soil characteristics vary from treacherous black cotton clay to sound rock. a brief account of the soil profile of the project sites, nature of buildings constructed or under construction and the type of foundation adopted is furnished in this report. 2 refs
